Sclerotherapy for Spider Veins

Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive treatment for spider veins, which are small red or blue veins that can commonly appear on the legs. During the procedure, a sclerosing solution is injected with a fine needle into the affected veins.

Compression garments are worn post treatment to help reduce swelling and keep the vessels closed. You may experience some soreness, bruising, and skin irritation post treatment.

More about this service

The sclerosing solution irritates the lining of the vein, causing it to collapse and stick together. Over time, the collapsed vein is absorbed by the body. After the procedure you’ll be recommended to wear compression stocking to help reduce swelling and promote healing. Sclerotherapy is commonly done in a series of 1-3 treatments.

The collapsed veins will not return as they are absorbed by the body, but new veins may form, especially if you have varicose veins. You will ultimately have the best outcome if the varicose veins are appropriately treated by a vascular medical provider.
